Tour Itinerary and Activities

Hierve el Agua (3 Hours): This is the primary stop, where you will encounter unique rock formations that resemble frozen waterfalls. Activities include:
    ◦ Hiking: You can choose between a short 45-minute walk or a more challenging 2.7 km “long hike” that takes nearly two hours and provides views from the bottom of the falls.
    ◦ Swimming: After the hike, visitors can take a refreshing dip in the natural mineral pools located at the edge of the cliffs, offering panoramic mountain views.
    ◦ Guided Exploration: While “Oaxaca by Locals” guides provide historical context on the drive, exploration inside the park is often done independently or with community guides who speak Spanish.
Mezcal Distillery Visit (1 to 1.5 Hours): On the return trip, the tour stops at a traditional distillery (such as Mezcal El Rey de Matatlan or Mezcal Valle Oaxaca).
    ◦ Production Tour: You will learn the “secrets” of mezcal, seeing the agave plants in the fields and understanding the entire distillation process.
    ◦ Tasting: The experience concludes with a generous tasting session, where you can sample between 7 and 14 different varieties, including aged mezcals and flavored creams.

We love you León!

April 11, 2026

This was such a fun day out, highly recommend for solo/partners/group travellers. The place where you meet has a lovely cafe and toilets. The bus driver was very kind and safe although beware the back of our bus was quite bumpy so if you feel travel sick ensure you sit towards the front! Our guide León was incredible, we all absolutely adored him! He was fun, informative and helpful to all. The Mezcal was definitely flowing and we all had an absolute ball! Thanks again!

Perfect Mix of Nature, Hiking & Mezcal

January 20, 2026

Our Hierve el Agua & Mezcal Distillery tour was absolutely fantastic! Everything was well organized, and there was a great, positive atmosphere throughout the entire trip.

The hike was beautiful and the natural springs at Hierve el Agua were stunning. The mezcal tasting was especially fun and entertaining, and we had the chance to try plenty of different mezcals.

A special thanks to our guide Leon, who was amazing and highly recommended. His knowledge, humor, and great energy made the experience even better.

We would definitely do this tour again!
